Drug disposal box available in Washington Township

The Washington Township Police Department has a drop-off box for unwanted medications at the police station, 289 Pine Run Church Road.

Residents can bring outdated or unwanted prescription or over-the-counter pills, inhalers, ointments, creams, sprays and pet medications that are in sealed bottles or bags. Patient information should be removed or crossed out. Needles and injectable drugs cannot be accepted.

Hours are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays. For an alternate drop-off time, call 724-727-3410.

Help offered for those with hard-to-read license plates

A free clinic to sign up to replace your hard-to-read license plate will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Aug. 22 at West Deer Volunteer Fire Company No. 2, 4418 Gibsonia Road, West Deer.

Bring your vehicle, title number, VIN number, license plate number and the make and year of your vehicle. Members of the West Deer and Northern Regional police departments will be available to help complete your application.

Allegheny Township

Monday: The Kiski Area Backpack Bash will be from 4 to 6 p.m. in the high school atrium for district students only. First come, first served. Students will receive a free backpack and access to free haircuts, the Cavalier Closet and free homecoming and prom dresses. No reservations required.

Arnold

Today: Unity in the Community will host a back-to-school backpack giveaway from 10 a.m. to noon at Roosevelt Park, 705 Drey St.

Avonmore

Today: A bingo to benefit the Avonmore Senior Center will begin at 1 p.m. at the center, 458 Railroad Ave. Doors open at 11 a.m. Packets must be picked by 12:30 p.m. and early birds will begin at 12:45 p.m. There will be a 50-50 raffle, 14 regular games, five specials and a $300 last jackpot game. Bethel Township

Aug. 12: The Outdoor Discover at Crooked Creek will offer a free class, Yoga for Kids — and Their Caregivers, at 10 a.m. at the center, 142 Kerr Road. Reservations required. Reservations: armstrongodc.org.

Brackenridge

Sept. 21: The auxiliaries of Pioneer Hose and Hilltop Hose companies will host a super bingo at Pioneer Hose Company, 124 Morgan St. Doors open at 11:30 a.m., early birds start at 12:45 p.m. and regular bingo begins at 1 p.m. Cost: $35, in advance, will be $40 at the door; includes a light lunch and bingo packet. East Vandergrift

Aug. 31, Sept. 1 and 2: Our Lady, Queen of Peace Parish is selling tickets for a three-day lottery raffle. The winning number will be the 7 p.m. Pennsylvania Pick-3 lottery number each night. Today: The Diaper Pantry at Christ Our Hope Anglican Church will distribute diapers from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church, 926 Painter Ave., and at Sheldon Park, both in Natrona Heights. Recipients must drive up and remain in their vehicles. First-time recipients must provide their own identification, the child’s birth certificate and a current WIC or SNAP card.

Thursday: Allegheny-Kiski Health Foundation will offer a free seminar, “Teen and Parental Rights from a Legal Perspective,” with District Judge Cheryl Peck Yakopec from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the foundation, 1 Acee Drive, Natrona Heights. Topics will include domestic disputes between parents and children, evictions of adult children in the home, protection from abuse orders, bullying in and out of the home, alcoholism and drug abuse and anger management. Today: The Joseph “Bud” Myers Farmers Market will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Bon Air School parking lot, 3260 Leechburg Road.

Today: The Veterans of Foreign Wars post will feature the 56 East Band from 8 to 11 p.m. Members and three guests welcome.

Today: The ClothesLine Ministry at Bethesda Lutheran Church, 3084 Leechburg Road, will be open from 9 a.m. to noon. Cost: clothing, shoes and purses, 25 cents each or five for $1; semi/formal dresses, $5. Free school supplies will be given to students accompanied by an adult. The jewelry room will be open. Monday: The Adult Day Care Mobile Veterans Program will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Veterans of Foreign Wars, 1601 Wildlife Lodge Road. There will be coffee and conversation, tai chi, games and lunch. Sponsored by the Department of Veterans Affairs, all veterans are welcome.

Today: Voodoo Brewing Co. will host a fundraiser to benefit the New Kensington Police Department K-9 unit from 5 to 10 p.m. at the pub, 956 Fifth Ave. The band Shot O Soul will play from 6 to 9 p.m., and there will be a basket raffle and more.

Services available will include disability and pension claims, benefit questions, assisting spouses with survivor benefits issues and applications for veterans grants. Oct. 5: Knead Community Café, 1011 Barnes St., is accepting space reservations for an indoor/outdoor fall craft and vendor show set for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the cafe. Vendors who sell unique crafts and giftware are preferred. No food vendors will be accepted. Cost: $35 for a 10 x 10-foot space. No electricity is available. Application deadline: Sept. 14. Oakmont

Through August 31: Kerr Memorial Museum, 402 Delaware Ave., Oakmont, is featuring an exhibit of elegant fashions of the late 1800s to the Roaring ‘20s at the museum. Through Aug. 16: A basket auction to benefit Beach Dog Rescue of Costa Maya, Mexico, will be at John Anthony’s Restaurant, 115 Center New Texas Road. Cost: $10 for 25 tickets. Can be purchased during regular business hours from the servers and staff. The drawing will be at 8 p.m. Aug. 16 at which time the owner of the rescue and a rescue dog will be present.

Springdale

Aug. 17: A miniature golf tournament to benefit the Springdale High School Marching Band will begin at 9 a.m. at Glen’s Custard, 400 Pittsburgh St. Prizes will be awarded to the top three golfers. Cost: $15, includes 18 holes of golf, lunch and frozen custard. Tickets: tinyurl.com/5ybcrnfu.

Springdale Township

Today: A spaghetti dinner fundraiser to benefit cancer patient Aurora Romano, 4, will be from 1 to 5 p.m. at Allegheny Valley Volunteer Fire Company, 815 Parkway Drive, Harwick. Doors open at noon. There will be a DJ from 1 to 4 p.m., a silent auction, bake sale and 50-50. Cost: $20; children, $10; younger than 5, free.

Tarentum
